Her name is Natasha Booise.
She was a mother to her 10-year old son. She would have turned 36 yesterday. She didn’t. Last Sunday, her boyfriend pulled out his gun and killed her.
He abused her on many occasions. But, as the story goes, its none of our business. It happens in relationships. On Sunday, he shot her. In cold blood. In front of her friends and family. Apparently in front of her 10 year-old son.
The killer was her partner, a policeman – he did it in front of other people, in public. Why?
Because he is the man, a man with a gun … mister man!
This cannot continue.
This cannot be the story of our lives … our communities.
There must be justice for Natasha Booise, for her 10year-old son.
We must break the cycle of abuse and violence.
We must own up to our conspiracy of silence.
We cannot remain silent: Patriarchy is killing us.
A different kind of masculinity is possible …
We mourn with a community,
We rise up with a community.
We owe this to our 10-year old sons and daughters.
